Where to stay in Cat Island, Aoshima island

You may have found how to get the cat islands (Aoshima and Tashirojima) in Japan from our previous article.

To support any cat lover to enjoy the trip to the cat island, with this Article, Onegai kaeru team introduce where you can stay on your trip to the cat island, Aoshima island in Ehime.

Unlike another cat island, Tashirojima island with several options to stay overnight on the island(which we featured here), Aoshima island has NO place to stay on the island. Thus you better stay somewhere close to the port of departure at latest one day before your travel to the island.

To make your trip as convenient as possible, we introduce several options in case you plan to visit Aoshima.

It is common that the ship is canceled due to the high tide etc. from November till March( autumn and winter). Thus, you need to be very patient enough not to be disappointed to find your ship is canceled after you travel all the way in the cold morning.. (in case you just travel to the area for the island and find out the ship is cancelled, you can consider travelling to the nearby city Matsuyama, one of the beautiful tourist destinations.)

The guesthouse closest to the Nagahama port where you dispatch for Aoshima is:

Ryoutei (“ 漁亭 “)

Price: 4500JPY per person per night with no meal, 5000JPY per person per night with breakfast, dinner starts from 1000JPY

Location: some walk from Iyonagahama station(closest station to the Nagahama port)

Some of our readers told us that its location is so great but the facility is not great.

Unfortunately, there is no other place to sleep in Nagahama port area.

One place which is located in Hataki station (”八多喜駅”), 10 mins by train from Iyonagahama station is Wataroku inn. (after you click, you jump to the Japanese website but you can book from the box at the bottom left corner. Sometimes the room is not available.).

But you have more options as below:

Alternatively, you can stay in Ozu city area which is the biggest city nearby the Nagahama port. We put the links to book these hotels and inn to each picture (after you click, you jump to the Japanese website but you can book from the box at the bottom left corner. Sometimes the room is not available.).

If you take the earliest train from Iyoozu station at 06:04AM, you arrive at Iyonagahama station at 06:30AM (on weekday. Just the time being indicative).

Please calculate carefully the time from your place of stay to travel to the Iyoozu station by car or walk, then to Iyonagahama station by train and the travel to the Nagahama port by walk. We would suggest you to consider at least one hour to 1.5 hour to get the Nagahama port.
